Bio
Well firstly i was born on the 1st October in Solihull, England. My musical journey started pretty young with a small amount of time spent on the Trumpet and Cello during primary school. I wasn’t really interested in either instrument and i never practiced so i eventually quit. I also began playing piano at some point during primary school. I’m not sure when exactly but i was probably about 9 or 10. Again, i never really loved it but i did manage grade 3 before my teacher ended the lessons through lack of practice. However, many of the rudiments i was shown then have helped me immensely now with reading music and theory.Â
Fortunately, i received my first guitar, a Squire Strat, Christmas of my 14th birthday and i can safely say i have never looked back. Lack of practice and commitment does not apply. I have taught myself from the beginning with the help of lots of reading, listening and watching. I really began to get serious about playing around 16 largely due to the introduction of Metallica. As my influences grew to include players such as John Petrucci, Al DiMeola, Zakk Wylde etc etc so did my playing, and it continues to develop to this day. My social life also deteriorated completely but to be honest i didn’t really care and i still don’t. Many hours of practice later and thankfully it was paying off. Â It is definitely worth it.
Whilst i enjoy lots of music, from the classical stuff to classic rock and even some pop, my main influences lie within Metal, Progressive and fusion music with Dream Theater being the most influential of them all. Â I’m still hugely influenced by alot of the old school prog, Rush and Yes particularly as well as the classic metal stuff such as Metallica, Megadeth and Ozzy. As far as newer bands go I’m really enjoying bands such as Nevermore and Opeth. Its certainly good to hear plenty of guitar wizardry coming back into today’s music, hopefully its here to stay. Perhaps the music industry will finally get behind real musicians rather than computer programmers and offer them the opportunity to create music for people. Hopefully i will be one of them!
Currently i play in a Birmingham based prog-metal band called Broken Faith. We play gigs all around England to so do come check us out. If i may say so myself, were pretty rocking. We are about to record an album too which should be finished by the end of 2008. Its all self-financed by the group but it its gonna be a cool record. Hopefully it will allow us to get signed and go play better places and get more exposure and maybe even some pennies. Also, the intention is to go over to California at some point late next year for a few weeks to play our asses off and have a good time. LA is the best city in the world so its gonna be cool……….Â
